What Are The Traits Of Highly Persistent People?
Persistent people are great at sticking to a plan, working towards a goal, and persistently pursuing something. They are often seen as optimistic and enthusiastic. But what makes them tick? And more importantly – how can you become more like them? Know this: persistence and optimism aren’t enough to become an ardently persistent person.
There are certain traits that individuals possess, which again and again make them successful in the long run. Let us look at some of the most common characteristics of those who have perseverance running through their veins:
They are Consistent
Persistent people are consistent in what they do and how they go about things. They don’t let their moods dictate their actions or choices. Also, they are consistent in the amount of energy they allocate to a particular endeavor. As a result, they commit to a plan, they resolve to stick to that plan, and they ultimately succeed in achieving their goals.
However, while being consistent, they aren’t too rigid. They adjust their strategies and work habits according to the context and situation. For example, the completion of a project may have a given number of prescribed steps to complete. Consistently following the steps has a demonstrated track record of success. However, a member of the group has discovered that steps two and three can be combined into one to finish the project quicker. And the other members of the group are receptive to that change because they are not too rigid.
They are Diligent
Diligence is the quality that makes success possible for those with persistence. Persistent people don’t give in to laziness and procrastination easily. They work hard towards making sure their priorities are in order so that they can achieve their goals.
People with high levels of persistence don’t let anything get in the way of their goals and aspirations. They are not bothered by hard work. Diligence is the ability to stay devoted to a given task until it is completed. Moreover, it isn’t just about working hard; it is about working smartly too.
Persistent people know how to prioritize, manage their time properly, and are not slave drivers. They also don’t let outside factors such as setbacks get in the way of accomplishing their goals.
They are Self-Disciplined
Self-discipline is the ability to pursue a course of action despite the temptation to abandon it. This trait is a must for those who have aspirations to persist in life. Those with high self-discipline know how to manage their time properly. And they methodically work through the obstacles that would otherwise infringe upon their goals and priorities.
For example, Thomas Edison failed over a thousand times before he successfully invented the incandescent light bulb. Thank God, self-discipline would not let him give up!
They are Focused
Persistent people are focused. They don’t allow any external factors to get in the way of their goals and priorities. These people know what they want and how to get it and they aren’t distracted by unnecessary things in life. Highly persistent people are focused on their work and assignments.
Focus is one of the most important traits for being a successful person. It isn’t about sitting in front of a computer screen or a blackboard for hours, it is about knowing why you are sitting there.
They are Always Learning
Those who have perseverance and optimism in their veins are always learning. They are curious about themselves and the world around them. These individuals are always exploring new avenues, new ideas, and new ways of doing things. A persistent person is open to learning from other people and their failures.
Persistent people know that there is no end to knowledge. There is always something to learn and something that you can add to your knowledge bank. Neither are they satisfied with simply being a repository of knowledge.
They are Humble and Encouraging
Persistent people are humble and encouraging. They don’t allow their success to go to their heads and don’t become conceited or arrogant. These individuals are also humble enough to receive help from people who are better at something than them.
